Aug 19th

Bob and I took a ride up to the Snowy Range the other day. Our friend, Tom Craig, from Quartzsite is the campground host at Lincoln Park campground off the Snowy Range Road. As we were driving up there, we noticed closer to the top of the range, the beetle kill was playing havoc with the pine trees. Instead of the beautiful green trees, you will notice the brown infested trees.

Also, as we took off toward the campground we spotted this sign. There are a lot of moose in the area.

Further down the road, someone had decorated a pine tree with Christmas decorations. I thought it was a bright spot in the road for August.

Snowy range pictures!!!

Ron and Terry (hitchitch.com) came from Iowa and landed at Woods Landing on Friday night. We had them for supper last night, along with my folks from Cody. This morning, my folks and my sister and family from Laramie met me at the cafe here and we had a nice breakfast.

We have been getting afternoon thundershowers almost every afternoon. Sure does cool it down nice after being in the 80's in the morning.

Aug 9th

Bob and I headed to Sidney, NE to shop at Cabela's last week. Bob got some fly fishing equipment (rotary vice, mag light, fly fishing vest), plus a few clothes. I got a couple of outfits too. We ran into a friend and took him to lunch. It was nice to see him. On the way home that afternoon, we encountered heavy rain. There was about 4" of standing water when we got back home.

A Wild West Relay happened over the weekend. 1320 runner ran from Ft. Collins, CO up over the mountain to hwy 230 and back down to Steamboat Springs thru Walden, CO. Our store at Woods Landing stayed open till 2:30am. The cafe and bar stayed open till a little after midnight. People flew in from Nevada, Michigan, Calif. and several other states.

Bob went with Justin, Karl and Charlie to a sporting clay shoot at a beautiful ranch on the North Platte River just north of Encampment. He won some wonderful door prizes. Best of all out of 100 shooters, Bob's group placed 1st!!! He was very happy. The night before they had a BBQ along with a calcutta.

My nephew, Barry, his wife Kerri and 2 children, Landon and Avery visited from Orlando, FL last week. They headed over to Yellowstone park to spend time with my other nephew Rob and his family, my sister, Donna, brother in law, Jim and nephew Dave. Barry and Kerri are expecting their 3rd child in November!

After heading back to Florida, Donna, Jim and Dave went onto Jackson Hole WY. They spend a few days hiking in the Tetons. After 10 days of enjoyment they are back in Laramie. They saw all the animals you could see in the parks, grizzly bear, black bear, elk, deer, buffalo, coyote and wolf. Quite an adventure for them.

George Eppler and his son Harley were guests at the campground. They have a business in Glendo WY. On this business trip, they headed up to Jelm Mountain and closed some abandoned copper and gold mines. They will be back later on this month to do more work. Here's a picture of George!

We are anxious to see Ron and Terry. We talked to them yesterday and they will be leaving Iowa next week to head west. They will spend a few days around our area.

If you ever go on the hwy 287 from Colo to Wyo (Ft Collins to Laramie) make sure you use the bathroom facilities before you stop at Tie Siding WY. We stopped there yesterday on our way back from Red Feather Lakes, CO and found out they charge 50 cents to use the restroom. What a ripoff!

July 28th

Goodness, the month of July is almost gone...I've been working so much at the place we're staying, I haven't done anything else except fish a couple of times.

Bob on the other hand.....well, lets say he has been fishing as much as I have been working. A couple weeks back he went to a private pond with his sons, Justin and Karl and a fishing guide. Bob and Justin and the guide went fishing out in a boat and Karl used the float tube to fish from. They were catching fish about 14" long. About lunch time, they pulled the boat in and were going to have lunch. All of a sudden Bob thought he heard someone throwing rocks into the pond. Come to find out, it had started to hail. They barely got the boat out of the water in time and got to the truck before the clouds just opened up and let it go. There were golf ball sized hail stones...The guides truck is full of dents and also a broken windshield wiper. Since the fishing poles were left in the boat, Bob also had one of his rods break. He did send it in and is now borrowing one from Karl. What a day they had...

We had a very nice couple stay in the RV site next to us. Jack and Karen are from Tuscon. They will be coming back in about a month to stay longer and do some hunting with some of his buddies that are coming up.

We have been having some wet weather. Check out laramieboomerang.com and see all the flooding that is happening in Laramie (a town 25 miles from here).

We had visitors that stayed in one of the cabins for a couple nights. I used to take care of Dorothy when I worked in Home Health. It was nice of them to come up. A picture of Dorothy and Leon Hanson.

Bob is trying to get a park ranger job in Quartzsite for the winter and if he does get it, we might have to head for Arizona in about a month. If not, we probably won't go till Oct.

July 5

We are into July already, the summer seems to be flying by.


At the place we are staying and working, Woods Landing just outside Laramie Wyo., the owners have decided to put the place up for sale. They listed with a realtor out of Texas and he drove his motorhome up to take pictures to list on his own TV show. It's on the outdoor channel (604 ) out here. It might be listed this Sunday at 10:00 am. Here's a pic of his motorhome. Quite impressive too! ! !










We had some wonderful people, Ron and Natalie Riddick, stay beside us for a couple of weeks in their 5th wheel. They had a toy hauler but it was used for an artist studio instead. They have large studio in Tuscon, AZ and invited us to come and visit them.

This next picture is quite unusual! A man from the cafe was driving along and found this dog and lamb just walking along the highway. He brought them up to Woods Landing and we eventually found the owners. We see some strange things in Wyoming!

Bob and I had our 3 year anniversary yesterday... We went on a picnic and then took a drive on a mountain road we hadn't been on. We were rattled and bounced around quite a bit. It was a road that would be good for ATV's and not big trucks. But it only took about 2 1/2 hours to get off of it.

Bob is enjoying fishing and tying tons of flies. Every time he goes to town, he heads to the fly store. He even catches fish from the flies he ties.

I'll probably write again in a week or so. It's not too busy during the summer so I don't have as much to write about.

June 26th

We have been busy taking care of the RV resort. The cabins have been booked every weekend. Bob has been able to spend quite a bit of time with his boys fishing. In his spare time, he is tying a lot of fishing flies. The little country store where we are staying is selling quite a few for him.
The weather has been hot for a few days and the mosquitoes love that. If you come up to see us, bring bug spray!
We helped our neighbor dump his trailer the other day. He was facinated by the mercerator pump and our 50 gallon tank we haul it with. After that his wife brought over supper to us 2 nights in a row. She is a wonderful cook...
My folks are going to be passing thru town on Thurs. after spending some time in Norfolk Virginia. My sister, Donna, that lives in Laramie and I are planning a dinner for them when they get here.
Bob and I are going to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary on July 4th. Probably will have to hang around and get our work done first and then have a BBQ afterward. I'll try to post in a couple weeks again...Have a great 4th of July!!!

June 13th

Hello from Wyoming!!
We are enjoying the summer helping out the owners of Woods Landing, 27 miles west of Laramie. Seems like I have cabins to clean every day and Bob has a lot of outside work going on.
Today tho,, I got a day off and decided to come to town and work on the computer. We don't get cell service up there or internet.
The fishing is getting better. Bob goes about every weekend with his boys and they manage to catch some trout.
Bob is also getting into Skeet shooting on Tues. nights. He really enjoys it. Both his boys join in on the fun.
Last weekend my sister and her family stopped to see us. Also Bob's son, Justin and family came up. We had a big BBQ and a great time visiting. My nephew Dave, who is 15 years old, was amazed at how big out 5th wheel is. He now has his learners permit and was excited to drive the 27 miles back to Laramie after the BBQ.
Not much else going on at the moment, just work and play!

May 30

We have gotten settled for the summer months. We are staying at Woods Landing, 27 miles west of Laramie WY. We are helping the owners of the place with outside chores, cleaning cabins and working in the store part time. It is a beautiful place with the Laramie River running close by. Brook trout are being caught now that the spring run off has cleared up a bit.

We had tons of rain yesterday along with snow last night and a bit of snow this morning.

It will be a perfect place to be for the summer.

We are close enough to town to run in and get groceries and diesel. Bob's son, Karl and his family came out on Monday and took Bob fishing. Then we all had dinner at the cafe in the evening. They serve excellent food and great service.

Not much else going on with us so I will post every so often.

We sure do miss our friends from Quartzsite! And can't wait to get there again in the fall.
